Don’t think I didn’t notice how all of you commenters in the What a Novel Idea! giveaway totally flipped out over how awesome my Gone With the Wind fabric is!! I really do love the idea of using the Doggie Adoration quilt in Pat’s book for it, even though some of you hated that idea.  (Win some, you lose some, right?) True to my Scorpio sun, I jumped on Google to do some in-depth research on what others have done with their GWTW fabric. That’s where I found this gorgeous quilt from sewfunbymonique’s Flickr stream. LOVE. THIS. QUILT. This mini-quilt from the Novel Idea exhibit, April 2010 sponsored by The Nimble Thimblers doesn’t actually use the fabric in question but it is nevertheless awesome and in keeping with our theme… Look at her waist!!!!  I love how the famous “I don’t give a damn” quote is written in the background.  The likeness is striking… Back the fabric.  I also saw a free pattern for these next two quilts….unfortunately, this one is not so much my cup of tea… and I don’t have that version of the fabric, anyway.  I also found a free pattern for this one, which is much more agreeable to me….. But I’m liking this version I found on the Dread Pirate Roger’s Blog even better… I also found this WIP from Melinda Quilts Etc. Seeing two versions without the suggested border made me realize I think the busy flowers in the border of the free pattern is too much for me.  I like it better without. Hmmm…….decisions, decisions… In the end, what I love most about the movie (besides the non-stop DRAMA and the characters that get more complex every time you watch) is the costumes. What if I did a repetitive sun bonnet sue-type quilt with Scarlet in profile wearing several of the different costumes from the movie?  You know, like one of these ditties I found at K-Lee’s Designs ….. But, like… Uhg!  I don’t know.  Fiddly DEE.  Thanks for being my sounding board.  Thoughts and opinions welcome. =) <3 Erin p.s. I said on Twitter that I was going to be taking pictures of my finished book projects today for my book trailer but I think I accidentally lied.  I might just take the rest of the day off.  I have trouble taking days off (I know I’m not the only one!) but I think it is finally time.  I need a little less of this…. and a little more of this…. or maybe even this…. Happy Thursday!

Dude. So I have never watched the film, but I did just manage to slog my way through the whole fecking book as part of some masochistic literary challenge, and Rhett never says the “frankly my dear…” line. In fact he hardly even features in the book at all. Maybe if he did the book would have been more bearable. But instead all we get is a lot of selfishness and idiocy.

You hated the book?? Oh man, I never read all of it, I just made Kelly read the juicy bits (she does voices) out loud to me. She was going through a really hard time and read it like two times in one week surrounded by pizza boxes without ever leaving her trailer. I totally turn to GWTW when I’m having a hard time, too, but the movie, not the book. If I’m doing a GWTW/Rocky Horror Picture Show double feature then you know I’m DONE. It’s comforting the way the movie never changes…and there’s so much drama what with the war, her dad loosing it, her useless sisters not stepping up, her mom dying, her kid dying, the whole town hating her, Rhett leaving (ack!) that it makes my life look like a cake walk. I remember Kelly saying the book does play it like Scarlet is super petty and lame, whereas the movie definitely shows her dark side but also suggests that her bitch power was one of the only ways for her to rise above the crap situation of being a (white) woman in those times. And no Rhett?? What is the story without dresses and Rhett Butler?!

I love this post of yours!! I love vintage fabric, always read your historical posts of various fabrics. It’s fun to see you post that fabric from Gone with the Wind…so true about all the complexities of the movie…but ohhhh…how I’ve daydreamed of Scarlett’s gowns, and somehow reproducing them. That was actually an influence to my seamstressing!! Can’t wait to see what you end up doing!! And looking forward to your book coming out! Congratulations!!!

Aw, Thanks Lori!! I’m happy to hear you’ve been following along since way back when I did those guest posts for Burdastyle! That is really sweet. =) The curtain sewing scene in GWTW is totally a seminal moment for me as a seamstress, too!!!

Dear you MUST inform me when all the green velvet curtains have been used in your GWTW quilt…. having seen it… by myself.. at the ripe age of 12.. I’ve been smitten ever since

no book either.. just the dang long movie for me!

I started throwing fabrics together on the floor for the quilt and I have to say the curtains weren’t in there. Next time? =)
