You guys know I have been working on my crochet top for a week or so now.  I based the top on a vintage pattern I got out of a 1968 McCall’s crochet periodical.  Remember? I needed a brooch to really make it work.  Well, I finished the top last night (!!) and found a brooch that works for $2 at a new thrift store in the Hollywood district of PDX a couple days ago. My domestic partner photographer and I did a photoshoot last night that breaks all the conventional how-to-take-pics-for-your-blog rules. I love them!  Here’s what happens when Julia is responsible for a crafty photoshoot at dusk on a full moon…. crochet shell top and raw silk tweed pencil skirt2 crochet shell top and raw silk tweed pencil skirt8 crochet shell top and raw silk tweed pencil skirt1 I crocheted the top using a sport weight acrylic/mohair blend – I found these colors together stashed into a plastic bag at the bottom shelf in the back corner of Goodwill. crochet shell top and raw silk tweed pencil skirt6 The top is all made up of popcorn stitches (at the yoke) and alternating rows of single and double crochet (for the body): crochet shell top and raw silk tweed pencil skirt5 I made the skirt, too! crochet shell top and raw silk tweed pencil skirt4 It’s stitched out of a fantastic multicolored raw silk tweed that I found at yet another thrift store. I also found a paisley black silk at the same store. When I find things like that you fellow shoppers are never the wiser. I go dead quiet and hide them in my cart.
